In addition to the normal subjects, students taking this programme also take the following modules: Enterprise Education and Preparation for the World of Work.
The modules are recognised for points purposes. Full details are given at the time students choose their Leaving Certificate subjects.

Transition Year Programme:

It is a unique one year programme for students who have completed the Junior Certificate. It provides a bridge to enable them to make the transition from the more dependent type of learning associated with the Junior Certificate to the more independent learning environment associated with the Senior cycle. It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence. Transition Year fosters academic achievement as students prepare for a Leaving Certificate programme, further study and adult and working life. It encourages the development of a wide range of transferable critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills.

The aims of Transition year at St Attractas are:

Education for Maturity with emphasis on social awareness and increaded social competence

Education through experience of Adult and Working Life as a basis for personal development and maturity

Promotion of general, technical and academic skills with an emphasis on interdisciplinary and self -directed learning.

Leaving Certificate Applied:

This programme is designed to meet the needs of those students for whom the established Leaving Certificate is not suitable. It is suitable for those who wish to enter the world of work immediately after school or perhaps start an apprenticeship.
