Extra Curricular Activities

 

SPORT A wide range of sports and leisure activities are provided at St. Attracta's. We have a full sized all-weather Gaelic Football Pitch, together with shower and changing facilities. The school also has a large P.E. Hall that can be used for basketball, badminton, volleyball etc. A fully equipped Gymnasium overlooks the P.E. Hall. outside there are three tarmacadamed basketball and soccer courts. St. Attracta's plays in all competitions in Connacht from 1st Years to Seniors, boys and girls. Currently we have 1st Year, 2nd Year, Juvenile, Junior and Senior boys football teams, cadette and senior basketball teams, first year rugby and also athletics coaching. St. Attracta's is thrilled to host many home games each year ensuring that our excellent facilities are enjoyed by as many students as possible.

MUSIC

Music as a subject is offered at Junior and Senior Cycle to Higher Level. Musical performance and participation is strongly promoted and encouraged in St. Attracta's. There is a Junior Choir, a Senior Choir, a School Band and a School Orchestra. We stage a school musical every two years. To date the school has staged very successful and memorable productions of West Side Story (2003), Fame (2005), Little Shop of Horrors (2007), Grease (2009) and most recently Back to the 80's (2011). Various National and International music groups have visited our school - The Young Americans, The Vogler String Quartet, Dervish, New Sunset Hotel. There are trips organised annually. Past excursions have included visits to The National Concert Hall, Grand Canal Theatre, Royal Theatre, Castlebar. Shows attended include Hairspray, Riverdance, Mamma Mia and Blood Brothers. Courses on Leaving Cert Set Works and Music in the Classroom have been completed by music students.
